Bubbling / Rippling Chrome S6 Grille Pigment

Has anyone experienced a bubbles or rippling issue in their stock C7 S6 grille? This is a 2013 and I'm the second owner. Final year, I noticed this effect where the paint appears to be separating from the plastic.

I'g off all adjacent calendar week, so I'm trying to effigy out the all-time approach to dealing with this. If I pigment or wrap the grille, I'm confident I'd demand to remove whatever existing paint to do it properly.

Or, am I just better off finding a stock black eyes grille and replacing it entirely? I want to somewhen blackness out the grille, window trim, and rear grey diffuser.

Happens a fair bit to the OEM grilles. Of yous want to go blackness, either a black optic or an RS style grille. Painting or wrapping will pb to divots from rock fries which youll be able to see from a mile away and will bulldoze y'all nuts.

I brought my car in today for a think and asked virtually the grille. It's not covered under warranty (ran out in October) and would exist around $800 for a new grille + labor. I call back I'm going to sand it down side by side week and repaint it myself.

The grill on my 2014 A7 had several places where the paint came loose, of grade subsequently the warranty was up.

I am really surprised this happens and not sure what causes the finish to come up loose on these. Nigh 80% of my grill looks brand new but about 20% of the end didn't stick. Why?

So I sanded downward the areas where the paint didn't stick and resprayed it with a can of black gloss pigment for plastic. Krylon was the make. I had to spray grey primer offset then that the blackness would lay down smoothly. I used a larger dust paper at first then a finer dust with water to shine out the scratches left by the grittier newspaper.

Overall, I am pleased with the results. My gloss rattle tin of paint wasn't equally glossy as OEM but yous actually have to expect closely to run into the difference. I could post pics but I'k not sure yous could tell where I did the work.

Rock fries > air gets under the cheap chrome stop and begins to chimera over fourth dimension.

I'd appreciate the photos if you've got them. Did you take the grille out, or practise everything on the motorcar?

Yea, the service director said rock chips permit air and water to infiltrate the paint finish, so information technology but spirals out of control after that with airflow and thermal cycling.

I painted my grill while on the machine. I taped information technology upward and made sure i didn't go overspray past the grill.

IMO, buy a new grille in one case you factor in your time, and the fact that the spray repair will probably non last as well as look worse. You're better off buying new and protecting it with some 3M pic or the like.

No thanks. I'll prepare mine, spend almost zero and be happy.
